BRENDA KOENIG

Crop Insurance Agent

Brenda understands farm and ranch insurance because she specializes in it.

I’m originally from Lexington, Nebraska, where I was born and spent my early years until 1964. That’s when my family moved to Boulder, Colorado. We moved back to Farnam, Nebraska, in 1971. My journey into crop insurance began in 1990 when I joined The Home Agency. A few years down the line, Jim Baldonado and I co-founded The Home Agency Service Center. We worked hard and grew the business to a $25 million operation. In 2005, I moved to South Dakota and soon after, I started working with Farm Credit Services of America as an Insurance Specialist. I was there for eight years. Then, in 2002, I took a job with ProAg as a field rep. During my time there, I also handled responsibilities as a business development manager and then went back to being a field rep in Nebraska. I retired in 2019.

Why Did You Choose the Ag Industry?

I haven’t always been involved in agriculture; in fact, I didn’t grow up on a farm or have anything to do with it until I started working in crop insurance. It was a whole new world for me, but I quickly fell in love with all aspects of agriculture. What really drew me to ag was the crop insurance sector. It’s fascinating, and through it, I’ve had the chance to meet so many wonderful people. I enjoy catching up with them whenever I can. It’s the connections and the community in agriculture that make it so special to me.

Activities / Interests

I love to travel and spend time with my family outdoors. Taking care of my lawn and garden is something I find really satisfying. I’m also into camping and playing golf. I’m really hoping I can do a lot more camping and golfing this year.
