KATHY MENS
Crop Insurance Agent
Kathy understands farm and ranch insurance because she’s a farmer.
I’m from a century farm in central Iowa, which has been in my family since 1886. My husband, Paul, and I live there, growing corn, soybeans, seed corn, and raising hogs. This place means a lot to us, and we’re hoping to keep it in the family for many more generations.
I’ve also been working in crop insurance for over 30 years. I started quite unexpectedly when I went to pay our insurance bill in the ’80s, and the manager offered me a job. Ever since, I’ve loved my work. I get to help farmers, understand their goals, and assist them with managing risks in their operations. Each farm is unique, which makes my job interesting and rewarding.

I love doing things related to the farm. There’s always something to improve or change. I have two children. My daughter helps out on her husband’s family farm, and my son works the farm with Paul and me. We also have three grandkids who are just the best. We spoil them rotten! Sometimes, I joke that if I’d known how amazing grandkids were, I might have skipped straight to them!
Farming is a big part of our lives. It’s not just a job; it’s something that brings our family together. Whether it’s my daughter, son, or the grandkids coming over, there’s always laughter and work to be shared. I love this life and wouldn’t change a thing.
